Engineering Lead

Vector Engineering is a family-owned technology and biotech business based in Oakland. Founded in 2018, we run 2 locations in Greater San Diego and employ a tight team that values doing the work well over scale.

About the role

You'll lead a small team of software developers while staying hands-on in the code. You'll break down projects into workable pieces, review pull requests, unblock teammates, and set the technical direction for your team's services. You'll still ship features yourself, but your bigger job is making the whole team faster: better designs up front, cleaner interfaces between systems, and fewer late-stage surprises in production.

What you will bring

You're a strong developer who has started mentoring others and wants more of it. You can argue for a design in plain language, give code review feedback that teaches rather than nitpicks, and know when to escalate versus absorb. Prior formal lead experience is welcome but not required.
